First let me start off by saying, I’m not a religious car model guy. I’ll drive Fords, Toyotas, Volkswagons, pretty much anything. The project happens to be about a Chevy Square Body that I acquired that needed A LOT of love and a lot of money to show it love.
Here’s where the story starts. Two years ago I bought a Jeep Wrangler to enjoy some mountain trails with my friend and son. I bought this great rock crawler that had beefed up everything. Despite all the great upgrades, I never really loved it. I actually started to despise driving it and my trips to the mountains started to wane because I hated it so much. Finally, I decided to sell it to buy my son’s FJ. I put up an ad on Craiglist but got zero bites. A month went by and I got an offer to trade for another Jeep, but nothing else. I created a second ad and again I got nothing. I was starting to get discouraged so I decided to accept the probability of financial loss and put up a third ad but this time I said best offer or trade.
For the first couple weeks, I got some crazy offers like $1000. One guy offered me a mini-van for the Jeep. Who wants to go from a Jeep to mini-van. I was starting to think I was going to end up keeping the Jeep, when finally I got an offer that was a bit interesting. A guy had a 1984 Chevy K10 Square Body with a 3″ lift. My son and I arrange to go out and see the truck. It was a little rougher than I was expecting, but it had potential. After considering different pros and cons, I decided to take the trade.
I brought the truck home and started to develop a project plan to get this old girl back on the road. The biggest hurdle to start this project was money. I had a little saved but not enough to really get started. I decided to sell my daily driver car to fund the start of this project. I was able to get $6200 for my old VW convertible which was enough to make a dent. So now the work begins. The endeavor to get the square body on the road and use it as my daily driver. Welcome to my Chevy restoration adventure.
